Serpent Spawn are the mistakes—the offspring that should never have been. Born from the forbidden unions between serpentine cultists and their reptilian gods, these creatures are neither fully mortal nor truly divine. They slither through the swamps and temples of their serpent overlords, forever caught between two worlds that both reject them. The serpent gods see them as tools, disposable soldiers bred for worship and war. The mortal races see them as abominations. The Serpent Spawn themselves feel this rejection in their twisted bones—too intelligent to be mere beasts, too feral to build anything of their own. They congregate in the shadows of greater serpents, hoping that servitude might earn them purpose. They hiss prayers to gods who do not answer. They guard temples built by others, kill for masters who despise them, and die without names or mourning. Some say the Serpent Spawn dream of a day when they will rise above both their creators and their enemies. But most simply exist in bitter servitude, knowing they were born as weapons and will die as fodder—unwanted children of an unholy union that never should have occurred. Serpent spawns have 3000 hitpoints. hitpoints. They are resistant against fire, poison, and energy and cannot be paralyzed. They can neither be summoned nor convinced. In addition, they are able to sense invisible creatures. Serpent spawns yield 200 experience points. They carry gold, gems, mushrooms, and sometimes other items with them. |
